Joann Smit has been working as a communications specialist at Pondera since January 2023. Based on a background in environmental sciences, his expertise is in the contact between residents and content specialists. Joann is committed to enabling discussions between people, and engaging local residents in projects in their neighbourhood.
At Pondera, Joann supports project teams in setting up and implementing neighbourhood communication and involving local residents. He also deals with the organisation’s brand image and external communication, including through the website and social media.
Education and employers
Joann studied communication and landscape at Wageningen University. During this study, his interest was in the importance of sustainability and responsible land management, and the need to communicate this message effectively. This led to a specialisation in Communication and Innovation during his master’s degree in Communication for Health and Life Sciences (2022). This background prepared Joann to focus on sustainability, green energy and future-proofing, while also taking into account the complex issues and strong emotions that can surface during green energy projects.
