Pondera has been awarded a prestigious project which extensively studies onshore wind in Indonesia. Titled “Wind Energy Development in Indonesia: Investment Plan”, this project is initiated and managed by the Southeast Asia Energy Transition Partnership (ETP), hosted by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).
We are delighted to start this 1,5-year study together with our partners, namely, PT Witteveen Bos Indonesia, the Indonesian Institute for Energy Economics (IIEE), PT Quadran Energi Rekayasa and PT BITA. This a great opportunity for Pondera to enhance collaboration with these experienced organizations in Indonesia and to transfer wind energy expertise from Pondera Netherlands to Indonesia.
This study will entail:
- Designing a roadmap for the onshore wind sector
- Conducting a permit requirement review for the sector and for a selection of wind sites
- Mapping wind energy potential and analyzing possible gaps for the selected wind sites
- Establishing an investment opportunities guide for the onshore wind sector
- Organizing wind power technical working groups to convene key stakeholders
During the study, we will closely collaborate with the main stakeholders in wind energy sector which among others include the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR), the Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas), state-owned electricity company PLN, and Independent Power Producers (IPPs). Pondera sees this study as an opportunity to expedite Indonesia’s wind energy development. Although two utility-scale wind projects have already been established in Sulawesi, there is a strong need for a concrete pipeline of viable wind projects that sufficiently entice investors’ interest. We are looking forward to the collaboration with UNOPS and ETP and will share intermediate results of the study as soon as possible.
