Colleagues at Pondera decided to fight against sitting down all day and motivate each other to clock up as many kilometres as they could for a good cause. The Ponderians have been forced to spend lots of time at home during lockdown. So, to motivate each other to keep moving, we created the 1000-Mile-Challenge. Over the course of two months, teams of 4 colleagues attempted to individually cover as many kilometres as possible. Walking, mountain biking, skating, swimming, rowing… all methods of travel were allowed, and every kilometre counted, from a trip around the block with the dog to a long bike ride on Sunday afternoon. A healthy incentive to exercise outside!
The challenge ended in mid-April 2021. The more kilometres a team covered, the more money Pondera made available to a charity to be determined by the team itself. In total we covered no less than 17,700 kilometres! A grand total of € 1,175 was raised for charities such as the Nationaal Fonds Kinderhulp (National Children’s Aid Fund), the Liliane Fund, the Mentelity Foundation and the Hersenstichting (Brain Foundation).
The members of the winning team received a small prize. All participants received a pair of sports socks, an illuminated bracelet for when it’s dark and a unique Pondera sports shirt. So even after the challenge, we no longer have any excuse to stay indoors!
