Robbert Groenen joined Pondera’s Jakarta, Indonesia office in September 2022. He has extensive experience in designing and managing (energy) projects in emerging markets. His financial and economics background, combined with his experience as an entrepreneur, enables him to effectively set up projects in Indonesia and guide them to successful implementation.

A few years ago, Robbert set up and managed the impact investment management company One to Watch in Myanmar. He worked on investment proposals and business plans for businesses active in the development of off-grid solar parks. Unfortunately, after the military takeover in Myanmar in 2021, the company was unable to continue. Robbert then decided to focus on helping accelerate the energy transition in emerging markets. One of the ways he does this is by introducing and scaling up new technologies in the field of solar and wind energy. In some cases, he does this in combination with the production of green hydrogen.

Education and previous employers

Robbert received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in International Economics & Finance from Tilburg University. Following this, he gained extensive experience in the financial sectors in London, Mexico City (Rabobank and De Lage Landen), Nepal and Myanmar (One to Watch). His goal for the years ahead is to utilise the knowledge and funding opportunities available worldwide. Robbert wants to see this done as efficiently as possible in order to accelerate the energy transition in Indonesia.
