Renewable energy projects tend to have a large number of stakeholders. Typically, the list of stakeholders includes the initiators of a project, local, regional and national authorities, water authorities, regional administration services, citizens, (local) companies and other NGOs such as interest groups for the local environment or wildlife. Because renewable energy generally causes a change in the living environment, there tend to be many interactions between all these stakeholders.

Stakeholder management helps to make (complex) energy projects run smoothly. The stakeholder manager ensures that the interactions and communications between stakeholders are as structured and as effective as possible. Often, the stakeholder manager is the point of contact for the whole community and is aware of what is going on in and around a project. For the various stakeholders it is nice to have one clear point of contact.
