In more than twenty years as a project lead and process manager, Eric Arends has gained vast experience with regard to environmental and safety management, sustainable energy and spatial planning. In the past decade, his work has primarily concerned environmental impact assessments, appropriate assessments, permits and feasibility studies in connection with wind energy projects. These projects involved both on and offshore wind energy. In addition to all manner of content-related issues, another important element in these projects is the ability to manage a complex web of public and private interests appropriately and effectively.
As a project and process manager, Eric sets himself apart by maintaining oversight and successfully distinguishing between main and peripheral issues. He observes and reports critical moments in the project cycle and undertakes adequate action in order to guide the projects to a successful conclusion. He also has years of involvement in offshore wind energy in the Netherlands and has contributed to obtaining many offshore permits along the way. Eric is currently on assignment at the Ministry of Economic Affairs as a project manager, where he is working on environmental impact assessments and appropriate assessments for the spatial policy plans for Hollandse Kust (South) wind energy area. He is additionally responsible for the supervision of several onshore wind-related developments.
Education, training and previous employers
Eric Arends studied business and public administration at the University of Twente, graduating in 1992 with a degree in public administration. He then completed an MBA programme focusing on environmental management. Eric worked as a project lead at IWACO, going on to act as project manager and to head an advisory group at Royal Haskoning. He has been a partner at Pondera Consult since 1 January 2008.
