Wind project Eemshaven taken over by Pondera / Rebel

Today Pondera and Rebel announced that they will take over the wind project at the breakwaters in the Eemshaven from YARD ENERGY. YARD developed this project in recent years, and as such, have reached agreement with Groningen Seaports on the use of the location. The main permits for the construction of two wind turbines have now been obtained.

“YARD has chosen to sell the project now to focus on completing the construction of onshore wind projects and investments in projects and companies related to the energy transition,” said Lex Roukens, YARD director. “We are delighted that Pondera and Rebel have taken over from us and are confident that the windfarm will be realised.”

“It’s a nice project for us to sink our teeth into, in view of the complexity of building turbines in and near the water,” says Hans Rijntalder of Pondera. “Our experience in realising the largest offshore wind turbine in the world in Rotterdam – the GE Haliade-X 12MW – is very useful here. We are pleased that we have found a solid partner in Rebel to help develop and finance the project. Rebel’s Wout Korving shares the enthusiasm: “Pondera and Rebel complement each other very well. I am therefore very confident that the turbines will supply electricity to the grid by mid-2022.”

Groningen Seaports also shares the enthusiasm. CEO Cas König says, “The realisation of these turbines is now one step closer. They will literally mark the entrance to Eemshaven and will contribute notably to our sustainable energy ambitions.”

The project consists of two modern wind turbines near the breakwaters. The capacity of the project is expected to be between 10 and 12 MW. Pondera and Rebel will fine tune the design in the coming months and select the contractor and turbine supplier, after which the financing will also be quickly realised.

City Council approves construction Wind Farm Agro Wind in Reusel

On 17 February 2020, the City Council of Reusel-De Mierden decided to issue a declaration of no objection for the construction of Wind Farm Agro Wind. This paves the way for the Municipality Board to grant the definitive permit to the High Tech Agro Wind Association. This is a major step for the Association towards the realisation of the wind farm.

Pondera congratulates Eneco on award Maasvlakte 2 wind farm

Yesterday, Rijkswaterstaat announced the outcome of the tender for the Maasvlakte 2 wind farm. Pondera is proud and delighted that Eneco emerged as the winner. It means that Eneco can fulfil its plan to build a wind farm of over 100 MW on the seawall at the Second Maasvlakte. Pondera has been closely involved in the realisation of the bid. Pondera was the coordinator of the Plan of Approach and designed the optimum wind turbine layout for this location.

Pim Rooijmans, project manager at Pondera: “In the past nine months our very motivated team have gone the extra mile to win this tender. It was great to see the lengths that all parties involved went to in order to secure this wonderful project. We look forward to working with the same team on the EIA follow-up process, permits and tenders for the Maasvlakte 2 wind farm.”

The new wind farm will generate around 416 GWh per year in green energy, comparable to the consumption of 138,000 households. Eneco expects to start preparations for construction in 2022, so that the park can supply 25 years’ worth of sustainable energy by 2023 at the latest. From 2023, Rijkswaterstaat will purchase all the green energy from the wind farm.

Pondera member of DeepWind cluster

Pondera is expanding its business to Scotland by entering into the DeepWind cluster. This coincides with the start of the close cooperation of Pondera and Pronewable, where Matthias Haag is project director of Neart na Gaoithe, and forms a ‘flying start’ of Pondera’s Scottish operations.

The push for closer engagement in the Scottish and other UK offshore developments is a direct consequence of the collaboration with Oldbaum Services, located in Scotland and a long term partner. Pondera is currently focussing on expanding its turbine & wind resource testing services and is keen to demonstrate its unique knowledge and experience based on over 10 years of Dutch offshore developments, as well as its knowledge as launching customer of the Haliade-X turbine, suggested to be a key workhorse for many future UK projects.

Eneco purchases electricity Haliade-X prototype

Eneco, Future Wind (a joint venture of Pondera Development and SIF Holding Nederland) and GE Renewable Energy announced today that Eneco will purchase all of the electricity generated by GE’s Haliade-X 12 MW prototype. The announcement was made during the inauguration ceremony for the prototype, that was recently installed at the port of Maasvlakte-Rotterdam (The Netherlands).

The prototype located at Maasvlakte Rotterdam in the Netherlands, has just set a new world record this past weekend by being the first wind turbine ever to generate 288 MWh of clean energy in 24 hours, enough to power 30,000 households in the region. Over the next five years period, the Haliade-X prototype will undergo a series of tests to validate the turbine’s power curve, loads, grid performance and reliability. The tests will also allow the company to validate operational procedures for installation and services teams. The testing will allow GE Renewable Energy to obtain a Type Certificate for the Haliade-X in 2020, keeping the company on track to commercialize the turbine by 2021.

GE Haliade-X 12 MW supplies power

The GE Haliade-X 12 MW has delivered its very first kilowatt hours. The prototype of the world’s most powerful offshore wind turbine has now entered its test phase on the Maasvlakte in Rotterdam. The data collected during this phase will be used to obtain the required certificate in 2020. Subsequently, the serial production of the largest and most powerful wind turbine can start.

Installation of GE Haliade’s blades has started!

Declaration of no objections for Wind farm Bovenwind

On 23 September 2019, the Staphorst municipal council issued a declaration of no objection for the Bovenwind wind farm (previously Staphorst wind farm). This means that the developer of the park, Wij Duurzaam Staphorst (WDS) can now apply for the environmental permit. The wind farm consists of three wind turbines with a maximum rotor diameter of 150 metres.

The cooperative was established in response to the order from the province of Overijssel to the municipality of Staphorst to realise 12 MW of wind energy. The reason for establishing a cooperative for this was that if it had to be done, then the Staphorsters would rather do it themselves. And they succeeded.

In 2018 the young cooperative won the tender issued by the municipality for the development of three wind turbines in the municipality of Staphorst. The plan was considered by the advisory committee to be the best of five submitted plans. This was mainly due to it complying most closely with the municipality’s objective – to develop a 100% cooperative wind farm in which 100% of the returns flows back to the community.

Both the spatial framework, the framework with economic and financial participation, and the framework with process participation were assessed as excellent. The municipality was very satisfied with the proposal, which is ‘almost entirely cooperative’.

In order to provide certainty about the feasibility, the cooperative has entered into a partnership with the regional water board to help achieve part of its energy objectives.

The first step in the financial participation process has now been taken. From 20th August to 7th September 2019, residents of the municipality of Staphorst were able to take part in the participation survey in the Windpark Bovenwind. Almost 3.6 million euros in pre-registrations have been made. Registration will open in 2020.

Pondera supports the initiative of Wij Duurzaam Staphorst. For example, we supported the initiative to draw up the wind plan and its implementation by drafting an EIA and permit applications, and attended the various public and sounding board meetings in order to decide on things such as the number of turbines and dimensions. In addition, the focus has been on two principles, maximising the return for the village and minimising disturbance.

Pondera Consult supervises tender Nieuwleusen wind farm

In July 2019, Pondera drew up the tender documentation for Westenwind 1 B.V. for the design, construction and maintenance of two wind turbines in the vicinity of Nieuwleusen, The Netherlands. The two wind turbines have a combined maximum installed capacity of 9 MW. The project is another positive step towards the Province of Overijssel’s goal in achieving 85.5 MW of installed wind energy by 2021.

Invitation to tender

Pondera has announced an “Invitation to Tender” asking market parties to make an offer for the design, realization and maintenance of the wind farm. A distinction is made between the actual wind turbines, the crane stands, access roads, cabling and the transformer station. A special and challenging aspect is that both contract terms of the UAV-gc 2005 and Fidic Yellow are used. The offers will be assessed on both quality and price. The best market parties are expected to be selected for the wind farm before the end of the year. Once the wind turbines have been installed, Pondera will also take on contract management to ensure that everything proceeds according to the agreements made.

Haliade-X nacelle on its way to Rotterdam

The Haliade-X nacelle is on its way to Rotterdam! The nacelle of the world’s most powerful offshore wind turbine, along with the 107-meter long blades, will be installed onshore to facilitate access for testing during the initial period of operations, and allow GE Renewable Energy to collect data needed to obtain the Type Certificate, a key step in commercializing the product in 2021.

Shipping and testing the first components of the Haliade-X 12 MW will keep us on track to commercialize it as scheduled. Haliade-X 12 MW will contribute to making offshore wind more affordable and will help developers drive the global growth of offshore wind while enabling all the environmental and economic development benefits such growth brings.
