Driven by his passion for a sustainable world, Bas uses his knowledge and expertise to contribute to sustainable energy systems. As a renewable energy consultant, his role is to calculate the potential electricity production of newly planned wind farms. His knowledge of wind turbines and his understanding of multidisciplinary systems serves as a solid foundation to perform these often complex yield assessments. Within this field of sustainable energy systems, wind farm optimization studies are the perfect challenge for Bas, in which he can passionately work towards creative yet realistic solutions.
Education and employers
After his BSc study in Natural Sciences & Innovation Management at Utrecht University, Bas completed his MSc study in Sustainable Development – Track Energy & Resources at Utrecht University, in 2008. These studies formed the foundation of a deeper insight into the main renewable energy technologies: Wind Energy, Solar Energy and Biomass. His graduation research involved assessing the potential of biomass flows (wood pellets) from Canada to Western Europe, for co-firing in power plants.
Bas started his career at Control Union (a Dutch multinational in the field of bulk cargo inspections) in Vancouver, Canada, to continue his work in the biomass industry, based on the experiences he gained during his graduation research work.
Following this, in cooperation with the Utrecht-based company Groenpand, Bas performed consultations and yield calculations of small-scale PV modules and energy-saving opportunities on residential and commercial properties.
In 2016, Bas made the switch to the wind industry by joining ENERCON, a large German wind turbine manufacturer. Within the role of Technical Sales, Bas gained a thorough understanding into the technical side of wind turbines, while also being able to closely follow the developments of the Dutch wind energy market.
Since the beginning of 2021, Bas has been working for Pondera as a renewable energy consultant in the technical team.
