For the Sharjah Electricity, Water & Gas Authority, the state-owned utility of the emirate Sharjah in the Gulf, Pondera will conduct a 3 year high-tech meteorological measurement campaign.
The measurement campaign will be conducted with a small network of meteorological stations, amongst others sampling wind speed and direction, solar radiation and extensive dust measurements.
The design has been prepared such that the equipment, centred around an air-conditioned LiDAR-container is flexible, to be redeployed through the region with Sharjah’s highest potential.
Part of the package is as well a knowledge transfer and training program and a test facility for renewable technologies. The overall aim of the campaign is to increase insights in the potential of the Sharjah inland-plains for large scale roll-out of solar and wind farms.
Pondera Director Eric Arends: ‘Pondera is delighted to be entrusted by SEWA to perform these high-value measurements in such a challenging place. After a thorough design process, we can now start to purchase and assemble the measurement and prepare for roll-out in rather extreme conditions. This project adds to the mission of Pondera to help bring affordable renewable energy for everybody.’
