“A better GRASP on your business case”

For some sites, only wind measurements or simple engineering models won’t suffice. Typical samples are sites with obstacles, multi-wake locations (think offshore) or sites with hilly topography.

The site studies for these locations will benefit from high-resolution Large Eddy Simulations (LES). Based on our collaboration with Whiffle for over 5 years, Pondera has build up a wealth of experience of where and how LES-modelling can add value to your project site.

We are confident that LES can help to add value to your project in terms of better placement of your wind measurement equipment, shortening of your campaign, tying-together complex flow measurements, forecasting offshore wakes and much more.

Here-below a couple of use-cases that we’ve applied LES-modelling for:

Is LES bankable?

Yes, as part of a well-structured wind resource assessment plan, LES has proven to be bankable for the first couple of sites in the Netherlands. It was used there in a situation with multiple complex wakes and for a site with a large ship yard blocking direct flow from a crucial sector.

Is LES proven to be accurate?

Many companies worldwide are aiming to have an LES-product that can be tailored to customer’s needs. However, most of these models lack the proven accuracy that GRASP brings. Pondera has proven on over a dozen sites the accuracy of the model, as did GE in a recent paper.

How does a typical project works?

Based on your site and your request, we made a calculation plan. The outcome of this is estimate of run-through time, costs and added benefits. The output parameters could be anything from long term wind speed & direction, turbulence, inflow angles, stability, cloud-cover, workable weather estimates etc.
