Nijmegen-Betuwe Wind farm

The Windpower Nijmegen cooperative constructed a wind farm in Nijmegen North, along the A15 motorway. This wind farm consists of 4 wind turbines (a fifth is possible from a planning point of view) and has been supplying electricity since the end of 2016. Pondera guided the initiator and involved authorities from the planning phase to construction, at a time when cooperative energy projects were still very new and unknown. Pondera conducted research into various effects of this wind farm. The results are described in an environmental impact report. As well as the investigations, Pondera assisted Windpower Nijmegen in submitting the permit applications and drawing up the necessary documents. The project was realized at a complex location (newly under construction industrial estate, next to the Betuweroute and A15 highway, where important gas and power lines are also located). On behalf of the initiators, Pondera’s external safety specialists conducted intensive consultations with the operators involved (including Gasunie and TenneT) to arrive at a workable solution.
