Offshore grid connection, Borssele

The Ministry of Economic Affairs initiated a new roll-out system for offshore wind energy with the Wind at Sea bill. Part of this is that TenneT has been designated as the offshore grid operator. A transmission system is being constructed at sea for the sites (parcels) in the Borssele wind energy area, off the coast of Zeeland, for connection to the Borssele onshore high-voltage substation. Components are two offshore (HV) platforms, the cables at sea, the underground cables on land and the extension of the Borssele onshore high-voltage substation. Pondera, together with Arcadis, supervised the EIA, the permits and the appropriate assessment. This resulted in an EIA which, in addition to all kinds of environmental effects, also takes account of the technical and economic aspects. Close attention was also paid to the environment with the help of extensive environment management.
