Every wind energy project needs financing and a suitable wind turbine technology selection. Our calculations and measurements are recognized in the market as a good basis, whether this is for a simple land-based location, for a complex mountainous environment or an offshore site. We can provide onsite measurements of the wind climate, using LiDAR's (laser-based devices which measure up to 300 m), measurement masts but also for complex locations, high-resolution (LES) modelling. The added value for your project? A suitable, flexible and finance-grade dataset & report and as a result a financeable project and fitting wind turbine technology.
Based on the site-specific context, a battery revenue assessment (BRA) helps to determine the (financial) feasibility of battery systems. The in-house-developed battery revenue assessment tool uses electricity market volumes and prices to determine the most effective charge and discharge windows. The BRA can also be used to determine the most efficient charging strategy in combination with renewable electricity generation on the same grid connection and/or optimize the combined output to a stable baseload or to match demand. Based on national legislation, local grid capacity, and flexible grid connection contracts a full battery revenue assessment is made. The BRA is not limited to batteries but can also be used to assess other flexibility technologies that use electricity, such as e-boilers and electrolysers.
We provide assistance throughout your solar project, from the applications of the first permits to the building of the project. In the early stages of the project, we provide visualizations of the site layout(s). Our energy yield assessment uses long-term measurement records from meteorological stations and/or satellite data to reduce the uncertainty. We take into account site specific conditions to optimize the layout and energy yield. In additionally we are experienced in analyzing the key factors that can influence the business case of (innovative) solar projects significantly.
We provide insight into the environmental effects of noise, shadow flicker and external safety of wind turbines and wind farms during various phases of a wind energy project. For example, as part of a feasibility study, but also during the spatial procedures or after realisation of a project. Based on the most recent regulations and calculation methods, we can determine the effects of a wind turbine or wind farm on the environment at various levels of detail.
Facing the challenges of the energy transition we have to look further than just at individual energy generation or storage projects but keep the system integration in mind.
We are supporting clients with tailor made analyses of the interplay between energy demand, different energy generation, storage, transport and conversion technologies in future scenarios. Depending on the case we use software programmes such as Linny-R to model the entire system, including all relevant energy flows, costs and other factors such as greenhouse gas emission or space use at the required level of detail. The system can be optimised for the lowest cost and can include power, heat, electricity, hydrogen, other relevant energy flows. Applications range from optimizing the energy system of a business park, an island, to an entire region or province. The advantage of a regional energy system analysis is, for example, being able to demonstrate that a specific generation technology, a micro-grid or storage systems are needed for the development of this energy system.
The goal of our metocean services is to derisk & optimize the business case of your project. This typically involves critical data and analysis on atmospheric and ocean conditions, such as wind, waves, currents, and water levels. To arrive here, we perform modelling, measurements, monitoring, conduct ambient and extreme statistical analysis, and provide expert support throughout the life cycle of offshore renewable projects. From site selection, through design and planning, all the way to operations and maintenance, our Metocean services can help you improve safety and performance, as well as minimize risks and costs. The benefit for you? A positive impact on your revenues and project lifetime.
For every new development in the Netherlands, an assessment needs to be carried out to determine whether nitrogen emissions during construction and use will lead to negative effects on Natura 2000 nature areas. Using a calculation in the AERIUS calculation program, we check whether a project might lead to excessive nitrogen emissions. We can also advise you on your options in case of too high nitrogen emissions.
We calculate external safety risks associated with activities involving hazardous chemicals, such as hydrogen or compounds found in Li-ion or redox flow batteries. The software prescribed by RIVM, Safeti-NL, is used to make quantitative risk assessments (QRA) according to risk standards in the Besluit kwaliteit leefomgeving (Bkl) and the Omgevingswet for large-scale energy storage or conversion projects. Safeti-NL also allows us to do other tailor-made calculations, for example to determine the possible effects of a failing co-located battery on nearby properties. We also offer spatial risk assessments based on the PGS 37-1 regulations for smaller projects.
In addition, we carry out risk assessments in the field of geohazards, and in particular for underground energy storage such as hydrogen storage and compressed air storage, using the risk-based approach. This approach is ideally suited to unique concepts for which little statistical data is available. It focuses on pursuing realistic goals despite existing uncertainties.
