About Pondera

Since our founding in 2007, we have been at the forefront of renewable energy solutions. As a relatively young company with a wealth of experience, we're dedicated to solving energy, climate and environmental challenges. Our work ranges from small initiatives to global projects in onshore and offshore wind, solar, hydrogen and energy storage. In 2024, Pondera joined forces with Royal HaskoningDHV, an independent international consulting engineering company leading the way in sustainable development and innovation since 1881. Together we combine engineering, design and consultancy with innovative technology to deliver sustainable innovation around the world.

At Pondera, we encourage equal opportunities and diversity in the workplace, we welcome candidates from all backgrounds. Acquisition in response to this advertisement is not appreciated.

About the EuroWindWakes Project

Pondera is proud to be a part of the EuroWindWakes project, collaborating with leading universities, research institutes, consultants, and wind farm operators across the Netherlands, Germany, and Denmark. The goal of the project is to develop, enhance, validate and benchmark various multi-scale wake modelling techniques that originate from applied science as well as current industry standards. Wake models in wind energy describe how the airflow behind a wind turbine is affected when wind turbines convert the wind energy into electrical energy. These models are essential for predicting how turbines within a wind farm interact and influence each other, impacting the overall energy production. The complexity of the models varies from relatively simple engineering models to complex Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Models, involving coupling to mesoscale weather models. Our focus is on validating and benchmarking these models . The evaluation will be based on comparisons to measurements, production data and round-robin tests for planned wind farm clusters.

Your role

As a Research Assistant / Working Student, you play an essential role in this exciting project. This includes:
•    Contributing to the validation and benchmarking of advanced wake models.
•    Engage in discussions with our project partners and specialists in the field area.
•    Working on the model evaluation, as well as the gathering and analysis of public wind data from the North Sea.
•    Developing and refining Python scripts for data storage, analysis, and model evaluation.

Connect with us!

We welcome students who:
•    Are in their Masters (e.g. Meteorology, Earth Science, Physics, Math, or similar)
•    Are interested in wind energy and the modelling of complex models (i.e. weather models)
•    Have strong programming skills, preferably in Python
•    Are available for 6 month or longer

You will be working from our office in Arnhem, located next to the central station. Interested in joining us? Don’t hesitate to get in touch with Anja Schönnebeck (a.schoennebeck@ponderaconsult.com).
