Bart Ummels is a senior offshore wind power expert and project executive, with two decades of experience in the wind industry and a strong research background. He combines leading roles on offshore wind projects with a part-time lecturer position at TU Delft in offshore engineering, where he teaches offshore wind energy and electrical engineering and supervises MSc graduates.

Bart is a communicative and energetic person. With his thorough knowledge, enthusiasm and practical approach Bart is able to bridge gaps between technical experts, decision makers and project teams. He has a strong focus on quality and safety, cooperation and delivery. Bart has successfully performed in many roles during all wind project phases: development/FEED, permitting, contracting, project finance, engineering and construction.

Bart Ummels Since 2008, Bart has worked on a dozen offshore wind projects, mainly in Europe but also in the USA, Australia and Japan. His roles included WTG and electrical package manager, engineering and construction manager, engineering management, construction management and overall project management.

Bart currently works as Engineering Manager Offshore Wind for Pondera, mostly on Eneco-Equinor’s bid for IJmuiden Ver as Electrical Package Manager. His experience in offshore engineering, project management and electrical expertise allows him to create maximum value during all phases of offshore wind projects.

Education and previous employers

Bart obtained a PhD in Electrical Engineering (2009, grid integration of wind power) and a MSc degree in Systems Engineering, Policy and Management (2004), both from Delft University and Technology. Since 2019 he is a part-time lecturer Offshore Wind Engineering at TU Delft. He has worked in the offshore wind industry since 2008 and is GWO certified for this.
