Jop Klaver started as Senior Geotechnical Energy Systems Consultant at Pondera in January 2024. Jop is an expert in the field of geotechnical engineering and geology. He gained a lot of experience in the energy sector by working on several international and multidisciplinary energy related projects. The ambition to make an impact is the driving force of Jop’s work.
Jop is working at Pondera on underground energy generation through hydropower, underground hydrogen storage and geothermal energy. He conducts feasibility and site studies around these topics.
Education and previous employers
Jop studied Civil Engineering at the HTS Alkmaar. Subsequently, he studied Earth Sciences at the VU in 2004. Jop has worked at Crux Engineering as Junior geotechnical consultant and at Deep Drill as work preparator. After obtaining his joined master’s degree at the VU and University of Bergen, he continued his career at RWTH Aachen University in Germany in 2010. This is where Jop received his PhD and also fulfilled a part-time post-doc position as a researcher. His research focused on porosity and permeability analyses of rocks using innovative imaging techniques.
In 2015, he founded a spin-off together with colleagues, MaP – Microstructure and Pores GmbH, which successfully marketed the developed methods and techniques. Besides his position as director, Jop held the position of project leader of several multidisciplinary and complex multi-year projects.
