Matthias Haag is an experienced executive, used to working at Board level, and with a successful track record in the renewable energy industry. He is passionate about wind energy, in particular offshore wind, and the marine renewable energy sector like tidal and wave energy. He is working since 2003 in renewable energy, after starting his career in the offshore Oil & Gas industry. He has worked on numerous wind projects in different countries and has experience in different size businesses from start-up to blue-chip companies like global player Shell. He was Project Manager for the first Dutch offshore windpark Egmond aan Zee, and later CEO for the largest Dutch offshore windpark – Gemini. Through his work on various projects, Matthias has also developed a solid understanding of project finance and equity investments. Currently he is leading the 450MW NNG offshore wind project in Scotland. He has a strong believe in teamwork and considers safety to be of the utmost importance in any project.

 

Education, training and previous employers

Matthias Haag graduated as Diplom-Ingenieur (Master Mechanical Engineering) in Darmstadt, Germany. He started his career as project engineer in Shell UK, focussing on pipelines, cables and smaller Oil&Gas installations. Later he worked on the Sakhalin project out of Paris and joined Shell Wind Energy as Project Manager in Amsterdam, before becoming General Manager Projects for all wind projects in Shell on a global basis. He left Shell to work as the COO of Aquamarine on wave energy, but returned to offshore wind after five years as CEO of the 600MW Gemini windpark. Since 2018 he is working with EDF Renewables on the NNG project and serves as non-executive director on the Board of Orbital Marine, a leading tidal energy company.
