Marieke Dirksen joined Pondera in September 2023. We would like to learn more about this Wind Resource Specialist, so we posed Marieke some questions.
Can you tell us something about your background?
I completed my Master “Earth surface and water” at the University of Utrecht, focusing on river and coastal processes. After my studies I started working at KNMI, where I conducted research on temperature and global radiation measurements. We have mapped the ‘urban heat island’ of Utrecht, calculated the ‘sky view factor’ of the Netherlands with the AHN2, and studied the global radiation of Europe. At Delft University of Technology, I specialized in wind and wind energy. As part of the WINS50 project, I worked on validating the wake effects in the HARMONIE model using LiDAR and anemometer.
What made you choose Pondera?
With my work, I strive to contribute to the energy transition. At Pondera I can use my knowledge to bring the realization of future wind farms a step closer. I am looking forward to further immersing myself in wake modelling of both onshore and offshore projects. The dynamics and varied work, as well as the collaboration with young passionate colleagues, fit with my ambitions very well.
What else do you want to tell us about yourself?
In my spare time I like to walk or cycle in nature. Every year, I try to spend time in the mountains with my family. The highlight of our vacation is often staying overnight in an unmanned mountain hut, without cell phone coverage. When it rains, we like to play board games and I always like to be challenged for a game of chess!
